August 12-16

August 13 – After the long weekend, I was able to look at the project in a new light. Instead of worrying about the temperature difference of our closed line across the heat exchanger, I took notice of the temperature difference between our line and the cool water line. Given the information on the heat exchanger from the distributor, I figured that the heat extracted from the line was similar to the models which had an 80 degree Fahrenheit temperature difference between the two lines. This gave me access to the amount of heat extracted by the heat exchanger for any given flow rate. I now believe I have the most accurate model to date; I also spent some time in AUTOCAD, expanding on the diagram that Jim had previously made.

August 15 and 16 – I finished up the piping diagram in AUTOCAD today. The calculations have also been finished for the project. At the meeting, I was told to keep the tubing through the CPU and the GPU at the same diameter. However, since this is a small diameter, the pressure drop across the system may be too great for the pumps to supply an appropriate flow rate. I have emailed Jim, and am awaiting a response. Otherwise, I spent time writing up the LaTeX file that will be given to the person installing the cool water line.
