                  a) Remove redundant composition "centralDC_gasvol" (CDCG) and
                     move its former contents into the outer "centralDC" (CDC)
                     container.
                  b) Move the "cdcLayers" volume slightly in z to eliminate
                     overlaps with the upstream and downstream gas plenums.
                  c) Move the aluminum mesh (CSAM) volume to align with the 
                     center of the straw volume.
                  d) Remove extra copies of the upstream and downstream plates
                     in the gas volume, moved to another geometry layer.
                  e) Add the upstream (CDPU) and downstream (CDPD) end plates
                     to the "cdcLayers" (DCLS) volume, set geometry_layer=1.
                  f) Increase the length of the "cdcLayers" (DCLS) volume to
                     make room for the two end plates and feedthroughs.
                  g) Complete rewrite of the straw end sections to get a
                     more accurate description of the end plate regions.
                  g) Decrease slightly the outer radius of the readout cables
                     to prevent extrusion from the envelope of the CDC.
